Possible Credit Card Scam
7/2/09
Det
Haslam reports a possible credit card scam in which an Indian speaking
man calls a homeowner and informs the person that he is a representative
from Wal-Mart and they are randomly picking out customers as a customer
appreciation program. This person has the homeowners name and address
and they tell them that Wal-Mart is offering them a $100.00 gift Card
for being a valued customer. When the person sounds interested they are
transferred to a manager who gives them a verification number and
informs them that there is a minor shipping and handling fee and then
asks the victim for their credit card number. A spokesperson from
Wal-Mart states that they do not participate in any type of program like
this. Det Haslam wants everyone to be aware of such scams and that it is
imperative to never give your information or credit card number out to
anyone.
