PROJECT PROM ALERT

Prevent Underage Drinking

The Swansea Police Department has partnered with the Swansea Motor Inn, Holiday Inn Express and the Venus DeMilo to support Project Prom Alert, Prevent Underage Drinking.  This program is intended to increase awareness of underage drinking during prom season to hopefully prevent a prom night tragedy.  Area hotels have been asked to be vigilant to prom goers who are renting rooms in their hotels.  They have agreed to notify police if prom goers are checking into the hotel so officers can do a walkthrough of the hotel and increase patrols at these locations.

The Venus DeMilo makes our community and surrounding communities popular for prom goers since they host many proms for area schools.  They have provided the police department with the dates of scheduled proms to be held at their facility.  Officers will step up patrol in and around the Venus DeMilo during these times, and the Holiday Inn will employ extra staff.

Any evidence of underage drinking at the Hotels will be reported immediately to police and room occupants will be removed from the hotel and possibly face criminal prosecution.  Officers will insure that all minors involved have arranged for safe transportation home.
